St. Fillan’s Playgroup has been in existence in Buckstone, in the Fairmilehead area of Edinburgh, since 1965. Our dedicated team of staff aim to provide a safe, happy and relaxed environment for children aged 2-5 to learn through free play and social interaction. The Playgroup is open Mon-Thurs from 9.15am – 11.45am during term time. To ensure consistency of care, we suggest that children attend for a minimum of 2 sessions per week. St. Fillan’s Playgroup is formally constituted and has charitable status.

Fees are currently £12 per session, inclusive of snack, and are payable termly in advance. You will not be charged for public holidays or in-service days. Childcare Vouchers are accepted as a method of payment.

St. Fillan’s Playgroup is run by a Play Manager together with three Play Assistants. To help us keep the fees down and to maintain a high adult to child ratio without employing additional members of staff, each parent is expected to participate in a duty rota. The number of duties you are required to attend depends of the number of days your child attends Playgroup (for example, if your child attends Playgroup for 2 sessions a week, you are required to complete 2 duties per term). More detail on parent/carer duty can be found Parent rota duties.

The administration of St. Fillan’s Playgroup is managed by a Committee of parents whose children currently attend the Playgroup. The Committee meets on a regular basis to discuss fundraising and other business concerning the day to day running of the Playgroup. New Committee members are always welcome.

St. Fillan’s Playgroup is a fully paid up member of the SPPA (Scottish Pre-School Play Group Association) and is registered with the Care Inspectorate for Scotland. The Playgroup was last inspected in March 2018 and was rated as Good across the board. A copy of the full inspection report can be downloaded here.

You are welcome to download a copy of the Information Booklet with more details on the Playgroup and its policies.
